Dr. Joshua Katz is the Director of The Elliot Lewis Center and a nationally recognized expert in multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, MOG associated disease, and transverse myelitis. He is recognized for his focus on comprehensive care and his sophisticated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis and sees patients in consultation from the entire New England area and beyond.
Dr. Katz believes that the best care is achieved through a close relationship between the doctor and patient and believes it’s crucial to treat the whole person, not just their illness. He is devoted to guiding his patients through the many complex aspects of MS, from understanding what MS is, making informed treatment decisions, to the impact on one’s personal life.
Dr Katz is the founder of the nationally acclaimed “MS Faculty Conference,” where MS experts from all the New England states convene on a quarterly basis to discuss controversies in MS and challenging cases.
He is active in clinical research on multiple sclerosis and is an investigator in numerous ongoing clinical trials.
Dr. Katz graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his neurology training at Tufts Medical Center. He also trained for several years in psychiatry and completed a neuro-ICU fellowship at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston. He received multiple awards from Tufts Medical School for his skill and dedication to teaching. He is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Tufts Medical School, a board-certified neurologist since 1999, and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. He is past chair of the clinical advisory committee of the New England Chapter of the National MS Society and a member of The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.
When not hard at work he loves spending time with his wife and daughter and dogs Jackson and Zeta. He enjoys cooking, photography, skiing, and running (not so much the running).
Mathew Embry is an internationally recognized filmmaker, MS advocate, and the President and Founder of MS Hope (www.mshope.com). Diagnosed with MS in 1995, Mathew redefined his life around the principles of resilience and conscious daily choices, demonstrating that living with MS is not an endpoint, but rather a beginning for a health-focused journey.
As the son of the founders of Direct-MS, Dr. Ashton Embry and Joan Embry, Mathew's advocacy roots run deep. He continued his parent’s work by producing and directing the influential documentary "Living Proof", which challenges conventional medical paradigms and advocates for patient empowerment. When not producing and directing documentary projects or spearheading initiatives at MS Hope, Mathew enjoys running, reading, music, nature and spending quality time with his two amazing children.
